NET-TEL is a successful British
software product company whose business is the design, development
and marketing of a comprehensive range of e-mail and messaging
products, and electronic commerce support
tools, under the Route400 brand.
NET-TEL was founded in 1982 to
develop real-time communications software for network operators
and telecommunications equipment suppliers that did not have the
specialist in-house skills needed to design and develop high-performance
software for advanced applications.
In 1986 NET-TEL's founders recognised
that electronic mail and messaging would become key software technologies
in the future. They decided to apply the skills and experience
that NET-TEL had built up in networking and telecommunications
to developing software based on open-systems interconnection and
the then-emerging X.400 standards for messaging. They also made
the decision to develop global products rather than to continue
developing custom software for other companies. These decisions
created the foundation for NET-TEL's significant expansion
and its current position as the leading European developer of
X.400 messaging products.
The first Route400 products were released
in 1988. These generated immediate interest among public sector
organisations in Britain and elsewhere which were beginning to
issue requests for proposals for messaging solutions based on
X.400. Since then, the range of software available under the Route400
brand has grown steadily to become a truly comprehensive family
of products encompassing the widest range of platforms in the
industry.
NET-TEL's customer base now includes
industrial, commercial and government organisations. Route400
products also form the basis for a range of product and service
deliveries from a growing number of OEM partners.
NET-TEL is privately owned by its
founders and a number of senior employees. All development staff
have university degrees in computer science or engineering and
the more senior of them have been with NET-TEL for over 10
years. With this skill level and very high degree of continuity
among the staff, NET-TEL has acquired an unequalled capability
in X.400-based technology. This sets NET-TEL apart from other
businesses that entered the field later or for which messaging
is a non-exclusive, non-core activity.
NET-TEL is self-financed and has
a consistent record of profitability. The business of the company
has grown in excess of 35% p.a. financed from retained earnings,
and the directors and staff firmly believe in the long-term stability
of the company. Large organisations have a right to know that,
when buying software products from NET-TEL, these will be
upgraded and supported without problems for many years ahead from
a financially stable and responsive company.
NET-TEL has always had an international
outlook with more than half of its revenue coming from clients
based outside Britain. In Spain, NET-TEL Sistemas España
has been established and supports an increasing number of local
systems integrators. In all countries, NET-TEL is adding
to its existing partners by actively seeking new systems integrators
and service providers that satisfy its requirements for business
professionalism and technical competence.
