We offer an increasing range of products
which provide additional functionality required for corporate
enterprise messaging systems complementing those already found
in our standard message servers and
clients.
We recognise that each client's situation is unique and that the
ability to select an individual combination of options is the
most appropriate and economical approach.
Fax Access Unit
The Fax Access Unit runs in a dedicated workstation, to
enhance performance, and provides a multi-port send-and-receive
capability for Group 3 faxes. It can be used in conjunction with
our optional Document Conversion Accelerator
to deliver fax documents which accurately maintain the original
format of the sender's office application. When users send a message
via the Route400 Fax Access Unit, they delegate responsibility
for delivering the fax to the designated recipients to Route400
and can concentrate on other, more productive activities.
Internet Gateway
The Internet Gateway provides a full-function gateway to
Internet. It supports both the basic SMTP specification for simple
e-mail and the MIME extension for message attachments of
any kind, including multimedia.
Document Converter
The Document Converter runs in the
message server and carries out three functions under
administrator control:
- Character set translation and body
part changes which are often needed for inter-operation with diverse
messaging systems of unknown capability
- Allows applications, including those
based on advanced command scripts, to be applied to selected message
content parts, allowing for example reformatting or virus checking
- Provides access to NET-TEL's
Document Conversion Accelerator, which translates
office documents into other formats, such as from word processing
to fax image.
Document Conversion Accelerator
The Document Conversion Accelerator runs in a separate
workstation and carries
out conversions between office document formats. It can also turn
such documents into plain text for transmission to destinations
not supporting the originating document type, or to fax images
for transmission via the Fax Access Unit.
This feature provides maximum message fidelity and makes use of
industry standard products allowing "future proof" upgrading.
Secure Message Gateway
The Secure Message Gateway allows users of a private network to
exchange electronic messages with particular users and systems
outside their network in a secure and controlled manner. Based
on "Closed User Group" techniques internal security
is maintained while enabling communication with the outside world.
A complete audit trail is provided together with an alarm function
which gives the system administrator immediate warning of an attempted
violation.
Virus Scanner
The Route400 Virus Scanner prevents the passage of viruses that may be carried within a message.
The Virus Scanner scans for the presence of viruses carried within messages and, if detected, eradicates
the virus-infected components of the message and alerts the system manager.
The operation of the Virus Scanner requires no end-user involvement, operating transparently to all client systems.
This product complements the use of client-based anti-virus software, to form a multi-layered defence against
virus attack.
Proprietary E-mail Gateways
Provide high-quality gateway functionality
and allow different proprietary e-mail systems to coexist
within a single organisation by attaching these to a backbone
network of Route400 message servers. When these Route400 message
servers are also connected to X.400 networks operated by telecommunications
companies or service providers, communication with external partners
attached to X.400 facilities is enabled. Route400 gateways support
most popular e-mail applications, including
Microsoft Mail,
cc:Mail (Lotus),
Lotus Notes and shared-file-access
messaging applications based on Netware (Novell).
Accounting and Billing
Allows measurements of a wide range
of messaging parameters to be made and logged during the operation
of Route400 servers. These records can subsequently be used as
the basis for performance measurement activities, formal statistics
reporting and resource usage accounting. The accounting records
themselves conform to the IAOG requirements used by public service
providers and can be used for cost allocation to individual users.
A sample billing application is also provided for customer adaptation.
Application Program Interfaces (APIs)
Application Program Interfaces provide an interface for applications
developed by organisations in house and/or by third-party product
developers. They include:
- X/Open CMC, MT, X.435 APIs & Microsoft MAPI
- NET-TEL API for message-enabled applications
- NET-TEL extended API for EDI applications using X.435
These APIs allow message-enabled applications
to be developed to meet individual organisations' specific requirements.
These applications would share with Route400 e-mail the common
infrastructure of message servers and networking facilities. The
NET-TEL APIs are functionally rich, reduce development time,
proven in practice, and backed up by a comprehensive set of developer
tools.
Developer Tools and Utilities
Developer Tools and Utilities offer developers a range of software
tools and utilities which enable them to produce new message-enabled
applications in a rapid and highly productive manner. The prerequisite
skill level for the development of X.400 enabled applications
is minimised. As a result developers can concentrate fully on
new applications.
Management and Administration Products
These software products are tools which
assist in system, configuration and directory management. System
management tools allow the status of all servers and communications
links in a Route400 network to be displayed at a chosen workstation
and appropriate changes to be carried out remotely and on-line.
With the configuration product, internal tables for routing, access
security, and code translations can be defined, initialised and
modified. The directory tools allow Route400 address books to
be updated from external files, merged with other address books,
and generally maintained with a high level of accuracy.
